The Bride’s Veil
A bit of History first: The reason the bride wore a veil [in the olden days] was to give the bride some privacy on her way to the ceremony, and also to shield her from any suitors on the way to her marriage...
also [way back] the groom always insisted that the veil was lifted to ensure that the woman he was being "presented" with was the one he had chosen [or had been betrothed] to marry and not a substitute bride...
So nowadays:
♥ Some brides arrives with no veil at all…
♥ Some brides choose to have their family lift the veil once they arrive close to the groom.
♥ Some brides ask the Groom to lift the veil once she has arrived with the Presenter/s.
♥ Some brides like to have the veil down for the whole ceremony…
♥ Some brides like the “thought” of their husband lifting the veil at the end of the ceremony… so you see it is entirely your choice …
[just another of the many you have had to make leading up to your wedding day!!]
May I say that in my experience, I have found that the bride gets a better view of everything when the veil is lifted away and off her face for the duration of the ceremony.
If it is windy, I like to get the bride to stand so that the breeze catches her veil and blows it away from her.
This usually ensures that it does not blow back over her during the ceremony [which can be quite a distraction!]
A shorter veil can be tucked under the brides elbow quite comfortably…
If it is a longer veil sometimes her maids can help her secure it from the breeze…
I’ve even had a VERY proud best man hold / take control of the end of the veil for the bride.
The flowing veil makes for wonderful photos, I’m sure you have seen these sort of photos but they are ones usually taken after the ceremony is over…
